Some of these fossils no longer exist. The creek took them back within weeks of the rubbing being made. What remains is graphite pressed into paper — the only record that something was ever there.
The technique was developed over years of trial and error. Moisture first, to let the paper take the shape of the fossil. Then the graphite bar, worked slowly across the surface.
Original rubbings are one of a kind — the actual paper that touched the fossil. Prints are high-resolution reproductions, cleaned and refined in post.
Both are available. Both carry the same subject. Only one of them was there.
